There are a couple of things we're having to adjust to here in California.
- The streets are just completely different. There's an exit in Austin off Mopac called Windsor. I refused to take this exit because it was confusing, made you turn in a big circle, and overall frustrated me. Well, all of the exits seem to be just like that here in San Diego. It's really interesting. God has a sense of humor, doesn't he?
- Get ready, ladies... There's a two story Target. Can you imagine the Day After Thanksgiving Shopping there?! It's incredible because there's a little escalator made specifically for your shopping cart. How original! Overall, the Target is pretty ordinary, but I was sooo confused when I went there the first time (and Dustyn wasn't with me). I had to ask a poor lady what in the world the second floor was for.
- The temperature is altogether completely different. Yes, it's cooler and not nearly as humid, but nobody uses their air conditioner here. We were told to expect all of our bills to total around $30 when we visited SD in May, but oh no... of course the kids from Texas would get a $70 electric bill for 11 days of service. We're having to adjust to not depending on the air conditioner so much. We've bought little fans (we have one in our bedroom) and have them throughout the apartment to help circulate air, and it's not so bad. We'll just chalk up the electric bill to a learning experience and the fact that we were all hot and nasty moving all of our things into this third floor apartment.
- We've never gone over on our cell phone minutes before. Typically, we have rollover minutes. That is until... you move out of Texas. Our cell phone bill for last month was $373. Yes, that's right. We nearly doubled the amount of minutes we were allotted to use. The poor lady at AT&T had a good chuckle when I called to inquire about a few things today when she looked at how far we'd gone over our minutes. The lesson learned here is this: 1-800 numbers are not free when you use a cell phone. Even silly AT&T provides a 1-800 number for you to contact them, but don't use it! Call 611 if you are an AT&T customer and then it's a free call. Also, every single time you check a voicemail, you're being charged. It counts against your minutes. And, if you are on the phone with someone and another call beeps in, you are being charged double the minutes. The lady was extremely informative and super nice (she gave us 1000 free rollover minutes to make it through July since we were near our cut off, again).
Other than all of these "lessons learned", things are going pretty swell. I start work in 6 days. I'm pretty nervous about it, but I think I'll be okay. I am praying that there are people at Gensler in need of a friend because I'm ready to meet new people and make some friends. :) I love Dustyn so incredibly much, but I'm sure he would prefer not to have to go "work clothes shopping" with me anymore. Poor man.

Thanks for all the smirks your blog generated! I miss you so much, but I'm excited for all that's yet to come (and that I've yet to hear about). :) I'm glad you've accustomed yourself to small fans. I should've warned you that would work! Love you. :)
haha, oh my goodness. i'm pretty sure my jaw dropped when i read about the two story target. that's incredible!
so I already talked to you today, but I have to comment and say:
1)I'm so proud that you have started a blog- I was going to ask you today if you had considered it!
2)I also hate the exits on Mopac and will usually make Derryk drive if we're going that direction. I even avoid the Steck exit by exiting at Capital of Texas on 183... yeah, I'm a freak!
Hi! This is a great idea. I know that you are also ready for work-A REAL JOB! You've made me feel like a bum with everything you have accomplished the last few days. Okay...."I am a bum, ....and you make me sick...NOT really. I just wish I had the intuition to do the things you do. "See" even from afar you can motivate me to want to something. Thanks!
Love you bunches and bunches!
Mom Z.
