swimsuits?

today was a beautiful san diego day. dustyn and i were invited to a friend's pool party, but we declined. there has been a bunch of drama involving this friend [scott...whom i wouldn't necessarily call a "friend"...but for writing purposes that's what i'll refer to him as]. instead, we decided to spend the day together. we had lunch at our new favorite little mexican [go figure] bistro, el portal, where we can get a $3 burrito the size of my forearm [almost]. we spent a lot of time in borders searching through books. borders seemed to be the 'hangout' place today. everyone wanted to grab a good read and head outdoors to bask in the sun with the new find.

after we left borders, we went home.
dustyn asked if i wanted to go sit outside and enjoy the day. i did.. i have angela's wedding coming up in july and will probably blend into the champagne colored dress if i don't get some sun.

the dilemma? i didn't have a swimsuit i actually felt comfortable in anymore. i don't know that anyone ever feels 100% comfortable parading around in a swimsuit. if you do, i'm envious. ;)

we started talking and
dustyn agreed to go swimsuit shopping with me. just how every guy wants to spend his saturday afternoon, right? we avoided target because i'd already perused their section of swimwear when my family was here... for some reason, a tankini swimsuit at target was almost $40 and i was not about to pay that. for someone who doesn't want to be caught in a swimsuit, $40 is not logical.

we planned to go to
macy's at the mall, but instead, our first stop was jcpenney's. typically, i don't shop here but i thought, "what the heck. let's give it a whirl." i was looking for a tankini swimsuit again, but was seeking out something that had adjustable straps because i didn't want crazy lines [if that's even possible for me and my vampire-colored skin] for angela's wedding.

first of all, let me comment on the major improvement swimwear companies have made since the last time i was seriously shopping for a swimsuit...almost 2 years ago. back then, there were hardly any cute non-bare-all-bikinis. all of the styles i was interested in had grandma patterns and
un-fashionable color combinations. this time around, it took me all of 15 minutes to find three very cute swimsuits, try them on, and purchase my finds. they had exactly what i was looking for and had modest options. i'm definitely not a girl with a size two body, nor will i ever be... but i felt pretty comfortable in what i found today. the best part? the top and bottom were each on sale for $14.99. jcpenney's was actually cheaper than my typical-go-to-fave, target. can you believe it?

when we got back to the apartment complex, we went straight to the pool and i changed into my new swimsuit. there were a ton of girls [between the ages of 6 and 10] around for a pool party. one of the girls watched me as i came out of the changing room and told me how pretty my swimsuit was. granted, she was probably 8 or 9, but that small compliment still made my day. maybe it took a little bit of the edge off of wearing the swimsuit. :)

so, if you need a new suit, head to
jcpenney's. they have a ton of great finds this season. i tried on three, but there was an entire section dedicated to adorable, modest tankinis...in case that's what you're looking for. oh, and you'll save some $$$.
