google reader + inspiration

in passing, i've heard dustyn talk about google reader. i had no idea what it was. i just did the smile and nod thing. he knows about so many different types of technology, blogs, etc. that i didn't think i needed to worry about it. well, let me tell you how much i'm admiring it now.

i just became a huge fan of my friend ivy's blog. she is getting married in august and she posts tons of fun things about her wedding. i love keeping up with it... and i have a lot to catch up on because she's been a blogger for a while. :) well, i saw that she had something tracking her workouts and how far she has to "run to the altar". i thought it was adorable.

instead of immediately searching for RunningAHEAD, i decided to google eating healthy and fitness blogs. i found a ton. one of my biggest problems is getting really bored with my workout. i'm not a huge runner, but then again, at some point in my life, i'd like to run a marathon... or even a half marathon. the biggest loser contestants did it... why can't i?

well, i found multiple blogs that are going to keep me inspired. i added those that interested me to my dashboard so i could keep up with them when i log in to write. it also adds more inspiration to write... if i'm already logging in to read. see, it's a cycle. :)

somehow, and don't even ask for an explanation, my dashboard took me to my google account. if you're a recent blogger, you have to have a gmail account, and google reader is automatically affiliated with gmail. anyway, it imported my list of blogs into google reader, so when i'm checking my email, all i have to do is click one button and viola, there are the blogs i'm following.

the dilemma is that i don't know if i can actually write/post a blog from google reader. since it says "reader", i doubt it. it's probably just for following. who knows. if you have any idea, let me know.

back to runningAHEAD. i checked out the website, and it's awesome. you can log your workouts and then i can keep up with how i'm doing, compare how much i'm running (or biking, swimming, etc.) and track my improvement. i'm in angela's wedding in july, so i guess to follow ivy's lead, i'm "running to angela's alter". haha.

before i sign off for today, here's a fun workout that dustyn and i did on sunday. have you every played phase 10 or do you have a deck of cards? well, we needed to mix up our workout routine, and we used 52 phase 10 cards for the strength training portion, and 30 phase 10 cards for the run.

for 30 minutes, at one minute intervals, we would flip a card. green and blue cards represented the incline we had to run at and yellow and red represented the speed. sometimes, it definitely killed when we flipped a blue 12 and a red 12... obviously we can't run at an incline of 12 at a speed of 12 for one minute yet, but we're certain we'll get there.

for the strength portion, here's what we did.
yellow: reverse crunches
red: crunches
green: lunges
blue: push-ups
**if we got a wild card, we would use the previous cards number, but choose any of the other workouts we wanted to do.
**skip card meant a one minute break.

this kept me entertained the entire time we were working out. mentally, it was fun so i stayed alert and didn't notice how tired my body was getting. physically, i was so sore the next day, but i felt great! this is a great idea because every time you work out, the colors can be a different workout. here's where we got the idea.
