tonight's workout ended not because i was tired. i mentally thought i could keep going and going... but my legs just gave out. literally, if i put too much pressure on my right leg, i felt like it would crumble beneath me.
1.78 miles. the shortest workout i have had yet.
i started out running at a great pace for me - 5.5 miles an hour. dustyn was running at 6 mph. it seemed like it would be a great night; we started mixing things up, adding steep hills and then doing sprints at 8 or 9 mph. 15 minutes before our workout was over, dustyn told me he was going to walk the rest of the distance. i was determined to finish.
five minutes later, i had to stop the treadmill and have dustyn help me off it. we didn't even take the stairs back up to the ground floor of the apartment building. we took the elevator. i decided to take a break and sit by the pool. i know this is gross since i'd been working out, but i took off my socks and shoes, pulled up my capri length work out pants, and sat by the edge of the hot tub, legs submersed almost up to my knee and let the jets pound against my legs.
even while sitting there, i couldn't pinpoint the source of the pain. my knees were hurting, my shins, or what i assume are my shins, were hurting. everything hurt.... it was an all inclusive pain below the knees. one leg didn't really hurt more than the other. i'm not sure what is going on with my body. i think i should probably speak to a doctor about this. maybe next week when i'm off i will make an appointment. it's just weird since i'm moving - do i wait out the pain or go see someone now? will the pain get better? is it because i'm out of shape? is it because i'm trying to run more in the last 2.5 weeks than i have in months? not sure.
when we got back to the apartment, i propped up three pillows, fixed two huge ziploc bags of ice, wrapped them in towels, and iced each of my legs for probably over an hour. yes, that is more than the recommended time, but i could've kept it on for longer. my legs didn't even feel numb. it took a good 40 minutes to even feel the coldness of the bags. i took two tylenol to kill the pain.
while i was sitting on the couch, dustyn and i began watching the biggest loser finale. i'm so disappointed tara didn't win, but more than that, i'm disappointed my body is not allowing me to perform at the level that these majorly obese people are (or were...). i know they have the best of the best doctors around, but still, they're working out for 6-8 hours a day while on campus... i'm just trying to get through an hour long run. what's my deal?
if you have any advice, please send it my way. i just don't know what to do. i'm hoping this is shin splints and not stress fractures. sometimes, from what i've read, people mistake shin splints for stress fractures. i think it's unlikely since it's both of my legs, but i'm no doctor.

Ok lady you are not on Biggest Loser and do not have the backup, nor do you know what goes on behind the scenes. Give your body a break, also incorporate some yoga into your routine.
Ice and rest...walk and do yoga. You are not a machine, treat your body with some respect!
Running is really hard on your body. I agree, incorporate yoga and stretching into your workout. The biggest loser is edited for TV, so you really don't know what their workouts are like. Don't compare yourself to them. Your dedication to working out is wonderful. Don't get discouraged. If the pain of running doesn't go away, see a doctor. You might have hurt yourself, you might need new shoes, or maybe running just isn't the best workout for your body. Don't give up!!!
