this morning, i knew i was supposed to go to taylormade in carlsbad and do a field verification of their floor plans. essentially, a field verification is making sure we have everything shown correctly (or as close as possible) in plan. taylormade has so many people working for them, and multiple projects going on at one time, that this was absolutely necessary. i was working on their largest building today (from about 10 am - 2:00), the first floor. this is where they have minimal office space, and mostly storage, labs, and production space. i should mention that the company is taylormade adidas ashworth golf. now known as taylormade golf company. anyway, they're all about golf - make clubs, balls, shoes, shirts - everything golf related and sell it to manufacturers, and then bring in VIP players to wear their clothing. it's a really cool project to be working on.
i was a-mazed when i was walking through the 30,000 square feet. everything is very private and "top-secret". they gave me a badge of my own that would give me access to almost any room i wanted to see. however, not all of their "restricted" areas were as closed off as they thought. somehow, i meandered into a restricted area and got into a bit of trouble because there was no way i should have been in there unsupervised. i had permission to see anything i wanted, but i didn't have the owner with me, so this guy called andy, caused a ruckus, and andy called my work to have them call me to call him. got all that? in the end, andy came down to walk with me or at least talk to the managers of all of the rooms i was to visit.
they have awesome equipment - machines that swing the clubs as hard as possible to test the wear and tear on the clubs. i almost thought the colored golf balls were colored Easter eggs because they were in an egg like carton. the ones i was looking at didn't have a texture - they were testing the dyes, so literally, they looked like Easter eggs!
after walking around the entire floor, i had to count all of the parking spaces (there were a TON) because we're trying to see if we can cut down the amount of parking they have. andy is convinced they have too many spots, but i'm sure that they don't. instead of walking the entire parking lot, i drove up and down every aisle and counted with the air conditioner blowing on me (i should mention it was a hot day). it was all fine and dandy until i look ahead and andy sees me, driving around, counting parking spaces, and he starts laughing. i hope he didn't tell stacy. that's kind of embarrassing.
as i was leaving taylormade, i check my voicemails. i have a call from ralph and he wants me to do another field verification "since i'm already in carlsbad." unfortunately, i don't have the plans for this project. it wasn't well planned. i wait for him to email me the plans and i look up a reprographics place. i email the plans to that guy. the minimum charge allowed is $12.50 so for two 11x17 prints and one 8.5x 11, i had to pay $12.50 plus tax.
i had to measure this crazy ramp for egress purposes at integrity application's future home. the ramp curved and it didn't slope the ratio on both sides. it was a ton of measuring, and it's going to be horrendous to try to figure out how to draw it. i don't know if i got all the measurements i needed. ahh! then i went up to the third floor of the building, where IA will be, and had to verify the restroom dimensions for ADA purposes. lots of measuring. lots. did you know that the toilet paper holder can only be a maximum of 1'-6" (i think) from the edge of the wall to the farthest side of the toilet paper holder? it's tedious. and kind of gross to measure all of this. ewww.
THEN, as i'm leaving here, i check my voicemail, and claudia needs me to go to another place on my way back to the office. she needs me to pick up a cd and look at the views from a certain floor we're doing the project on. this wasn't that hard to do, but it required involving a lot of people that had to have explanations of why i needed access to certain areas and needed to know who i was.
traffic was horrible coming home today. i'm never that far outside of san diego, so i witnessed the stand still traffic for the first time. i didn't even go back to the office because i didn't finish at kilroy until after 5:00. when i got home, i started making this new recipe for baked spaghetti. it was pretty delicious; dustyn's just now eating because he's been on a conference call with shanghai. some of the noodles got a little crunchy in the oven, and he's driving me nuts crunching on them. evidently, that's his favorite part. grrrr.
tonight, i'm trying out my new running shoes. i don't think i'm going to do interval training tonight - maybe just a steady run. i've been doing a lot of interval training because it constantly keeps your body in check. today, i just want to workout, but not stress out so much while doing so. i probably walked 5 miles today just going around the taylormade building. i never sat down the entire day!
after the workout, back to packing the kitchen. i've decided everything will be boxed. i'll continue cooking simple things, but we're eating off paper plates. i can't stress out about the packing so much - i have to do what i can to make things easier.
oh, which reminds me. i have decided to be laid off. dustyn and i do not think we will file for unemployment, but it will be nice to have the option there just in case. you never know what will happen. yes, some time off from work will be nice, but i will need a job eventually. so, who knows when the economy will pick back up and allow me to get one again. stephanie and dustyn both agree that filing for unemployment can be a bad thing, so we won't do it.
