last night, i thought that kelley and carie had invited a lot of friends to go to basic and we'd all be sitting at the same table, eating food, etc. it wasn't like that at all. well, kind of. those of us that knew each other all sat together in the lounge area, ordered pizza, and talked. carie and kelley had to actually walk around and tell every table about dining out for life.
we were the first of the invites to arrive... even before kelley and carie. when they showed up, they talked to the managers, got situated, then carie practiced her talk on dustyn and i ... twice. they had to tell everyone that basic was donating 25% of their proceeds to aids research/prevention.. give them an envelope to let them know they'd be entered in a drawing to win free meals for a year from the participating 83 restaurants in san diego, and tell them how they could receive weekly coupons from them as well.
i was so impressed with their effort; they rocked it. they became really comfortable and the nerves went away. i was put in charge of holding the envelope with all of the smaller ones with donations. dustyn and i left there around 9:00 and when i got home, i crashed on the sofa.
it's kind of my favorite place to fall asleep sometimes because i refuse to fall asleep in bed without dustyn. he had work to do last night for a deadline on tuesday. i don't know when he woke me up to actually go to bed, but boy did it sure feel good getting to sleep in today.
i got up. started washing clothes. put dishes away and ran another load. made breakfast for dustyn. cleaned the bathroom. and then went to workout. all before 10:30 this morning!
my workout today was really great; dustyn had to work so he didn't come. i guess it's easier to go to the gym when it's daytime and i assumed no one would be there. by the way, we've just been using our gym at the apartment complex, so i can walk down there by myself. i first have to comment on the cleaning lady that was there; since everyone's scared of the swine flu, she was wiping down everything in the gym - all the equipment, surfaces, glass, mirror, - and vacuuming. everybody (yes, there were people; i was wrong in my assumption that it would be empty.) was using sanitary wipes (kind of like clorox wipes) to wipe down the equipment before using it. personally, i wish everyone would be this sanitary all the time. it grosses me out to see big sweaty men not clean the equipment and the puddle of sweat they've left behind as a souvenir.
i ran for 30 minutes today for a total of 2.2 miles. my pace isn't that great; i'm running close to a 15 minute mile right now. however, to make myself feel better, today the cards gave me a lot of steep hills at a low speed. i have been wearing a heart rate monitor, and believe me, my heart rate was crazy high. after the treadmill, i did a small strength training workout.
red: push ups
green: bicep curls (with 10 lb. weights)
blue: squats (with 10 lb. weights)
yellow: bicycle crunches
i couldn't make it all the way through the deck because i was tired, but i counted how many of each thing i did. here are the results:
48 push ups - not all of them were full body; i did have to go to knee push ups after a while...
74 bicep curls
70 squats
73 crunches
i'm telling you - i did maybe 2/3 of the deck today and i still got a really great workout in. it honestly doesn't feel like i'm doing so much because it's a huge game for me. if someone said, "do 70 squats" i'd probably look at them like they were crazy. i think you should try this out. i am feeling really great about the workouts.
i've made a VOW to stay away from the scale. over the last 3 months or so, our scale was broken. we finally replaced the batteries because we're weighing our moving boxes, and it's a temptation for me to want to see how my weight fluctuates from day-to-day... sometimes even throughout the day. in most things i read, they tell you to stay away from the scale because it can be a stress for you. while our scale wasn't working, i had to pay more attention to how my clothes fit and whether or not i was comfortable. happily, i'd kept 10 lbs off while it was broken and didn't gain any weight. for me, i guess it's about learning how to trust the process and not expect to see biggest loser results.
kim is on her way to san diego. we're going to go downtown to one of dustyn and my favorite places to eat mexican food - la puerta. jenn leaves tomorrow and she's gathered people for a happy hour at 4:00.
after that, i'm not sure what the plans are. at old town (the popular mexican food section of san diego) they're having cinco de mayo weekend, so we might see if there are any fun festivities to attend. we've considered going on a hike, but i don't know if kim is a hike kind of girl. maybe we'll just relax and watch movies. who knows!
i hope all of you have a fantastic weekend. xo.

Hey, I'm really impressed with your workouts! You are doing a great job, Magan!
Thanks, Stephanie. My workout last night has my body feeling really tired today. Overall, I have more energy though. It's weird how that happens... :)
