dustyn and i just returned from a workout about 30 minutes ago. i wanted to update my runningahead info and he laid down on the floor to stretch. well, i got caught up in looking at enna's blog and catching up... and updating my status on facebook. as i'm sitting here now, he's snoring away. loudly. i really want to take a picture, but it's too dark because our window blinds are closed. and camy is asleep on my foot.
we've had a fantastic weekend. kim got to SD about 4:00 on friday. soon thereafter, we went downtown to meet jennifer and the friends she'd gathered together at la puerta for a last good-bye. kim got to meet stephen & david, carie & kelley, nicole, jennifer, brian, and larry. stephen and david are always a hoot - and stephen totally called me out for the most embarrasing moment for me.. of the afternoon. my bangs are too short to sweep to the side on their own, so i pulled my hair over to the side and bobby-pinned it. stephen definitely called me out, while the table was quiet, and said it looked like a comb-over. oh, stephen!
we had dinner at la puerta and then went to horton plaza to meander around. kim was looking for some new converse shoes because hers finally passed away. it was a beautiful evening, there was live music, and it was very relaxing to walk, talk and catch up. we had no luck finding the shoes, so we went to blockbuster and rented three movies .. 1) rachel getting married, 2) doubt, and 3) nick and norah's infinte playlist. we hit up target for a few minor necessities and then headed to our apartment. we watched rachel getting married friday night. it was not, not, NOT a good movie. none of us understood how it was so appraised at the oscar's. it was pretty terrible. anne hathaway definitely did a great job playing a drug addict who needs much attention, but other than that, no bueno. don't recommend that one.
saturday, we slept in. when i woke up, i went to jenn's to pick up some boxes that she had left over. i said good-bye to her dog, lulu, and then took jenn and brian to the car rental place to pick up the van they'd be driving cross-country.
i went back to the apartment after dropping them off and dustyn had made waffles and eggs for breakfast. we all had breakfast, then got ready for the day. we went to the outlet malls in carlsbad because i knew i'd seen the shoes kim was looking for when i went with jenn a few weeks ago. we weren't there too long because kim definitely found what she was needing in the converse store; dustyn and i also got our own pairs of slip on converse. they're so comfy! highly recommended by all three of us...

we were heading home for a relaxing evening, but kept geting detoured. we saw a strawberry patch where you could pick your own strawberries and stopped. we spent quite a while there because it was so much fun. they were *delicious* and we found a few mutant strawberries that were like three grown together!

we'd been planning to make steaks all weekend, but decided to take kim to this hamburger joint in the hippie/bohemian part of SD because hamburgers are one of her favorite foods. the burgers are cheap, there are license plates all over the wall, there's always a line, and it's one of the "go to places" in most travel books for SD. the place is called HODAD's. Hodad stands for "a wannabe surfer"... it's really fun. kind of scary lookin' too...

we walked out to the pier, but didn't actually venture all the way down it because the sunny day faded into a grey sky and it turned chilly. we took a few pictures, and then left. dustyn and i had the same idea - to take kim to the sunset cliffs, which are close to where we were. we'd actually never been there either but it was on our must-see list before we leave. the cliffs are incredible. they're so old and in places, they've shifted and actually broken apart, but you can still climb all over them. it's so beautiful. this is one of those places that you visit, and you think, "God... how amazing are You? this beauty is incredible."

after we left, we were headed back to the apartment because kim desperately needed a restroom. but, we saw a lemonade stand some little kids had set up and kim went to buy two cups. it was so funny how excited she got about purchasing the lemonade.
we went to trader joe's and ralph's to purchase steaks and other supplies for our sunday bbq. i also got an angel food cake and fat free cool whip so we could use a few of the fresh strawberries for dessert saturday night. once we finally got home, we all took showers, put on our pajamas, and watched two movies. the first was doubt with meryl streep and amy adams. the acting was phenomenal, but the movie really had no conclusion as to whether or not the priest was molesting the young boy. we were all in a pretty sour mood after this movie, but thankfully, we'd saved Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist for our last movie of the weekend. dustyn and i had already seen this one, but it's right up there with juno for me - i loved it. i'm considering purchasing this movie in the future because it's so different than most things on the market these days.
sunday, we slept in and took our time getting ready for the day. we went down to our apartment pool and bbq pits around 11 am. we grilled chicken and dustyn made steaks. unfortunately, camy accompanied us to the bbq and she whined the entire time because she was in a new place and wanted to explore. we had a delicious lunch, then went back to our apartment. kim left shortly thereafter to head back to LA.
dustyn and i settled down after kim left, watched a few TV shows we recorded from last week, and then headed to the gym. we did our workout together yesterday. it was my longest run so far and it felt great; we were only able to make it through two rounds on the weight machines we were doing.
the rest of the evening was frustrating because i was packing the office area while dustyn was working. that means, we were both in the same area and it's tiny and cramped as it is... and we were doing different activities. i felt like i wasn't accomplishing much. we're keeping the books on the bookshelves and built-ins for now because once they're packed - the boxes will be on the floor. i only packed one box during my two hours of working in the office, so it really just felt like i was shuffling things from one place to another. i know that i was goodwilling items, recycling / shredding papers, etc. but boy, the office last night did not reap the relief i was expecting to feel.
dustyn has a deadline on tuesday, so i fell asleep on the couch long before he went to bed last night. :)
